We were appointed by the RAC Club to decorate interiors in the clubhouse on Pall Mall. The works were internal specialist decorations. The building remained in use. Members and staff continued to move through the clubhouse while we worked, so the package was as much about protecting a live historic interior as it was about the finish itself.
A historic clubhouse is judged by whether the decoration belongs to the building. The RAC Club did not appoint us to modernise Pall Mall. They appointed us to carry out internal specialist decorations that sit on the existing interior and leave the clubhouse looking as it should. We have not attached a listing grade to this record. We also kept the scope honest. This appointment was internal specialist decorations — not an external elevation package we were not given, not a window count we do not have, and not a room-by-room inventory for publication.
