We were appointed by Quinn London to decorate the interiors at Young V&A in Bethnal Green. The package was a museum fit-out: public spaces that visitors walk through, and back-of-house rooms that the museum uses to run the building. Both had to be decorated to a finish that would stand once the museum was in use.

Young V&A is a public museum in Bethnal Green. Our work was the interior decoration of its public spaces and its back-of-house spaces, delivered as a fit-out package to Quinn London. We decorated both sides of the building and handed them back as one museum, not as a public face with unfinished rooms behind it.
Public museum interiors are seen at close range, under lighting that shows every miss and every ridge. The decoration has to be quiet — it should not compete with the collection — and it has to take a public cleaning regime. Back-of-house interiors are less on show and harder-wearing in use. They still have to be finished properly, because staff and operations use them every day, and because a museum fit-out is handed over as one building, not as a public face with unfinished rooms behind it.
Decoration on a museum fit-out sits late in the sequence. Display work, floor finishes and services land ahead of the painters. We worked to Quinn London's sequence, protected finished work as it went in, and snagged as we went so making-good did not become a second mobilisation after the public rooms were supposed to be closed out.
Public and back-of-house spaces were part of the same appointment. We treated them as one decorating package with two kinds of room, not as a showpiece front-of-house job with the rest left for later.
We worked as decorating subcontractor to Quinn London at Young V&A. Access, deliveries and working areas were arranged around the main contractor's programme. Where public rooms sat next to display work or finished floors, we hoarded and protected so paint and dust did not walk onto the collection spaces. Back-of-house rooms were decorated as part of the same package, to a standard the museum can use.
Museum interiors cannot be left looking like a site. We kept working areas contained, cleared as we finished, and handed rooms back in a state that could take inspection. The standard is the same one we use on other public and cultural interiors in London: even coverage, clean edges, and no leftover decoration damage on the work around us.
