Decorating the Embassy of Ireland in Belgravia London
Our Painters and decorators in London were recently commissioned to decorate the Embassy of Ireland in Belgravia central London. Belgravia was a dangerous place to live in the middle ages being synonymous with highway men and robberies. However in the early 19th century it was developed by the Marquees of Westminster into a multitude of grand terraces and became known as the Grosvenor Estate. To this day it is still owned by the Duke of Westminster.
GSD London were commission by the Embassy of Ireland to redecorate their main function hall and ambassadors offices. These are all focal point rooms that entertain dignitaries from all over the world and are of great importance to the embassy in London. This Grade 2 listed building required all of GSD Londons heritage decorating skills and techniques used to lovingly restore the tired surfaces back to the former glory.
The decorating specification and painting brief was to restore all gliding and gold paint work in the main reception room and reinstate all decorative work throughout the office.
The whole decoration project lasted a 4-week period with GSD London’s trusted painters and decorators working around the clock to insure satisfaction.
Restoring a Grade 2 listed building on the Strand
In 2019 our painters and decorators in London were commission to restore a large Georgian Terrace property located in central london just off of the Strand. The Strand was extremely popular with Englands upper classes throughout the 12th-17th century.With many important buildings such as Somerset House and the Savoy Palace all built in its vicinity. The developer of the property approached GSD London to help them restore this huge building back to it former glory. The building in question is actually where J M Barrie wrote the literary classic Peter Pan. He used to live on the roof of the building in a small roof top shack.
The building had many original features covered in hundreds of years of old paint which GSD London lovingly stripped and restored before painting in Farrow and Balls premium collection.
The project took two years in total to complete with up to 10 GSD operatives working at anyone time, but as you can see from the photos it was worth the wait. Painting the UK’s Largest Post Office
We were employed to paint the redevelopment of the Royal Mail’s largest post office situated in Mount pleasant Farringdon in the heart of London. It was first originally opened in 1889 and is a 12 acre site in the area of Clerkenwell which hosts the British Postal Museum and Archive.
The current redevelopment is to create a new hub for urban living in the heart of the city. This is a 5 year plan to firstly redevelop the post office, creating new underground car parks, loading bays and offices. Then to redevelop the grounds situated around the site to house up to 5000 new homes and apartments.
GSD London were employed from the first stage of this redevelopment having already been on site for two years decorating the post office and sorting house, we are looking forward to another three years helping the scheme come to life.
New Build Housing Estate in North London
We were recently contracted by one of Englands largest home builders to paint and decorate a plot of thirty five new build four and five bedroom homes on a new development in north London.
These houses are aimed a family buyers looking for a high end finish with large interior rooms and family sized gardens but within the M25 allowing for great access into the city of London.
The project took a total of 24 months from beginning to end and GSD London were employed to prepare all plaster surfaces, prepare and prime all woodwork before applying top coats of paint finishes and hanging designer wallpapers throughout.
